summer uprising, leeds, July 15-24 2019
Also known as Project Mushroom, Summer Uprising happened simultaneously in Leeds, Cardiff, Dublin, London and Bristol. For other cities, there was a 6 month preparation period. With XR Newcastle dropping out late on, Leeds had two weeks to pull this off. Going back to the "real" world after living on Victoria Bridge in the centre of Leeds was very jarring and emptier without so many of these happy faces to wake up to, without 1 million and 1 things to do in such a short space of time and seeing yellow everywhere! However, I’m very thankful I stayed in my hometown for uni, yes, mostly because of the people I have met, and the environmental movements they’re part of, that are making history, that I wouldn’t have had the fortune to have on my doorstep...
Die-in, leeds trinity, may 11 2019
This was the first action I took part in. That same morning I returned from a Marina concert at the Manchester O2 at 5am. Five hours later I woke up, thinking the die-in it would be a great opportunity to catch up on sleep. It was incredibly difficult to find, due to the location changing four times on the same day. So when I eventually saw the motley crew protesters in Trinity shopping centre, you aren't surprised by how shocked I was to see so much engagement. Watchful legs, protest placards, even policemen, who stood back and didn't stop us form proceeding. Everyone dressed as animals in response to the recently released report by the UN saying that if humans carried on at current consumption levels, we threaten 1 million species survival.

This action was significant for me. I (finally) met Sam here. I found family. I found hope.
